In Sri Lanka, the calendar overflows with celebrations. With a vibrant mix of cultures and religions, the island hosts festivals almost every month — each more colourful and welcoming than the last.

April brings the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, marking the end of the harvest season. Homes fill with the aroma of sweetmeats like kokis and kavum, while games, music, and laughter spill into the streets.

In May, the entire country glows with the light of Vesak, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Lord Buddha. Streets come alive with lanterns, elaborate pandals, and alms-giving stalls offering free food to passersby — a true celebration of generosity and unity.
